Turning Machining Description:

Turning is a machining process in which a cutting tool (usually a non-rotating tool head) describes a helical cutting tool path by moving more or less linearly while the workpiece rotates. The turning process requires a lathe or lathes, workpiece, fixture and cutting tool. The workpiece is a block of pre-formed material, fixed on a fixture, which is itself connected to the lathe and can rotate at high speed. The cutter is usually a single-point cutting tool, also fixed in the machine, although some operations use multi-point tools.
