Cold Forming Taps
Product Details
Cold Forming Tap Processing Technology:
The forming tap is made of high-quality high-speed steel, with pre-formed special-purpose lubrication grooves and a tin-plated layer. The square shaft at the end of the tap is used to transmit the torque required for tapping.
Compared with the threads processed by traditional cutting taps, the threads processed by chipless forming taps have ultra-high strength. It does not form threads by cutting the granular structure of the material. Instead, due to the special geometry of the tap, the material is extruded and redistributed to form threads. This chipless extrusion process does not destroy the inherent fiber orientation of the metal. Instead, it makes the metal material denser. Therefore, the threads processed by forming taps have the mechanical characteristics of high tensile resistance and high torque.
The forming tap is the ideal tap for processing threads after flow drill drilling. For the bushing formed by flow drilling, even in the thin-walled part at the lower end of the bushing, the forming tap can extrude and redistribute the material to form threads, and the strength of the threads is effectively guaranteed.
Advantages:
Chipless, cleaner working environment;
Compared with ordinary cutting threads, thread forming is faster;
The machined thread surface quality is higher;
The tap rarely breaks during thread machining, extending the service life of the tap;
Since there is no cutting of the granular structure of the material during thread machining, the machined threads have the mechanical characteristics of resisting large tensile force and torque;
Suitable for most thread machining machines;
Suitable for all metal materials that can be processed by flow drill bits, including steel, stainless steel, light metals, aluminum alloys and metal materials with tensile strength not greater than 1200n/mm.
The drill chips generated during ordinary drilling operations can be connected into sheets and can be used for extrusion tapping.
Working Principle:
The blue area in the figure represents the thread part, and the red-gray area represents the forming tap.
The yellow line in the figure represents the inner diameter of the thread bottom hole of the cutting tap, and the green line represents the inner diameter of the thread of the forming tap, which is slightly larger than the inner diameter cutting line of the tap.
The cutting tap cuts off material to form threads.
The extrusion tapping of the forming tap is completely different: the material is redistributed on the inner wall with the extrusion movement of the forming tap to form threads.
Please note that as the metal material moves up and down, the extruded thread is finally formed.
The forming tap retains all material and forms extruded threads to ensure thread strength.
